📸 My First Food Photography Gig for The NY Times: A Journey Back in Time 📸

First food gig for The NY Times almost 10 years ago. Waiting for the feedback from the editor was nerve wracking 😅😅😅

Almost ten years ago, I landed my first food photography gig with The New York Times in New York City. It was a defining moment in my career, one that I’ll never forget.

I remember the excitement when I got the call. The NY Times! It was the big league. I knew this could be a game-changer for my career in culinary photography. I prepped like crazy, making sure every shot was perfect. The lighting, the angles, the plating - everything had to be on point.

When the day came, I was ready but still nervous. The shoot went well, but the real challenge was waiting for the feedback. The editor’s approval was crucial. Would they like my food photography? Would it make the cut?

The wait was nerve-wracking. Every time my phone buzzed, my heart raced. Finally, the email came in. I opened it with shaky hands, bracing myself for the worst.

To my relief, the feedback was positive. They loved the shots! That moment of validation was incredible. It boosted my confidence and reaffirmed my passion for food photography.

Looking back, that gig was more than just a job. It was a stepping stone that led to many more exciting opportunities in culinary photography in New York City. It taught me to trust my skills, stay dedicated, and always strive for excellence.

Today, as I continue to capture stunning visuals for culinary brands in New York City, I’m grateful for that nerve-wracking but rewarding experience. It set the foundation for a career in food photography that I love and am proud of.

Here’s to many more years of capturing the essence of food, atmosphere, and people in New York City.
